|Starting in 2000 there have been registered 361,000 manufacturing businesses in Mexico, of which 99.2% are corresponding to micro, small and medium industries. To verify the environmental fulfillment of all, there would be required 2.8 years considering the capacity of the competent authorities for carry out the environmental audits. In order to encourage to the businesses in the care of the environment, the Ministry of the Environment has developed a series of programs, such as that of the “self regulation” and that of the “clean industry”, in which the industry participates with the academic and government sectors for a local environment. Nevertheless, in agreement the results observed in the last 4 years, the number of industries recorded in “self regulation” program has shown a very slow progress: 183 businesses per year. Therefore, it would be required around 180 years to have completed the “self regulation” system.|
The industrial chambers, understanding this problematic, promote the sustainability in the industry where the competitive advantages are observed for the consumers who seek the marks of products which have greened an image and, at the same time, those products signifying the “aggregate value” by themselves. Strategies like this have been building to define the guidelines required to make the decisions. It fits to mention that splits of the features of the sustainability, they are international system quality, such as ISO 14000, business social responsibility, among others.
