Developing Educational Partnerships to Change Mindset in Construction Industry
Jan Carey, The University of Adelaide, Australia
How do you get construction companies, investors, executives, contractors and workers to change mindset so that they will support and adopt innovative building methods and materials designed to safeguard the environment, and bring about better waste management practices including recycling, conservation of water and energy, controls on pollution, self-regulated management in short, more sustainable construction? Environmental educators may know the theory of it, but the industry itself knows what is practical and what is not or does it? Through combining the expertise and experience of the industry and educators, construction could give a lead to other industries facing a similar challenge. This paper will stimulate discussion on what needs to be done, or done differently, to achieve an economically, socially and ecologically sustainable construction industry.
