Multiactorprocess for the development of a concept for living and care for elderly
Emma van E.H.D. Sandick, TNO, Netherlands
Large breakthroughs in the domain of social en ecological problems make it necessarily to work together with different actors (Rothmans 2003). TNO has developed a method in which industrial parties, local government and research institutes work together to come realize to sustainable system innovations. TNO has applied this method in two cases; . One case on Customized Food and the other case on Living and care Care for Elderly people. The described case focuses on the problems of the proportional increase of the ageing population. On the one hand these , people need care and are used to a relatively high level of comfort and independence. On the other hand there is enormous pressure on the decreasing on the budgets in for the care. In this context TNO started this the case together with a housing cooperation and , a care institute and the local government including the welfare organization. It is role of TNO is to facilitate this process and to support the process with research activities. The goal of this case is to develop a practical experiment as that is the first step into towards a possible new future. A new future on in which elderly can live safe, comfortable and independent as long as possible and how this way of living causes low environmental damage. The practical experiment is a way to learn about this possible future and the pathways that lead to this future. At the same time it is and it is also a way to learn about the sustainable system innovation method. This paper describes the experiences of this practical case. It describes how the partners are brought together, how a common future vision has been developed, how industrial partners are involved and how the learning environment has been created.
